"Designing is a matter of concentration. You go deep into what you want to do. It's about intensive research, really. The concentration is warm and intimate and like the fire inside the earth - intense but not distorted. You can go to a place, really feel it in your heart. It's actually a beautiful feeling."
- Peter Zumthor
The South Miami Library project goal was to reimagine the typical library by combining it with a complimentary program. The complimentary program that I chose to add was a community garden and an outdoor market space. I felt that these programs would create more of a sense of community within the neighborhood. I wanted the library to embrace nature which is why I included a greenery screen to wrap around the outside. This creates an emphasis to the interior windows which do not have the screen and look out to the interior courtyard that includes large bamboo and a small water feature. I wanted the library to be a very relaxing and peaceful oasis to the neighborhood of South Miami.
